Paraprofessionals play an important role in supporting students and maintaining safe and inclusive learning environments. Unlike teachers, paraprofessionals are often positioned directly alongside individuals or small groups, providing consistent attention and support. This proximity means they are frequently the first to notice subtle signs of stress or agitation and have the opportunity to intervene before these early warning signals turn into crises. This module outlines approachable strategies paraprofessionals may use to support student behavior.

By the end of this module, participants will be able to:

  • Emphasize the importance of early intervention
  • Outline how structure and predictability diffuse student frustration
  • Provide strategies to promote trust and belonging among adults and students
  • Highlight specific instructional approaches to lessen academic challenges and
  • Demonstrate the importance of adult regulation in student behavior support

This course will take approximately 45 minutes to complete.
