Training

Schools have an opportunity to strengthen safety and trust when they understand how complaint and mediation processes function and how these mechanisms may reveal gaps in restraint and time-out practices. Educators who are familiar with the pathways available to families and the collaborative role mediation plays in resolving concerns are better prepared to respond when problems arise. Examining common system issues, such as inconsistent documentation or unclear procedures, helps schools identify where their practices need improvement. This understanding supports more effective communication with families, more reliable implementation of safety requirements, and stronger relationships that contribute to a safer and more predictable experience for students.

By the end of this module, participants will be able to:

  • Distinguish complaint and mediation pathways

  • Recognize common triggers for complaints

  • Identify gaps in restraint practices

  • Strengthen documentation and communication systems and

  • Engage constructively during dispute processes

This course will take approximately 30 minutes to complete.
