Identifying the Appropriate Conditions and Resulting Dangers of Restraint and Time-out
This module focuses on defining imminent danger to increase staff understanding of the appropriate use of emergency safety interventions or crisis management practices such as restraint and time-out (RTO). When considering these restrictive interventions, staff need to recognize visual and audible signs of distress a student may exhibit and be aware of medical and psychological contraindications that further limit the use of RTO with specific students. As a result of this module, participants will be able to:
- Define imminent danger and distress
- Identify contraindications to using RTO
- Recognize signs of physical distress
- Utilize appropriate actions
