Training

An increasing reliance on classroom clears as an alternative to physical restraint brings the practice into focus and question. A classroom clear, sometimes called a room clear, means removing all other students from the classroom to de-escalate the one remaining child. Schools frequently keep no records of the frequency or duration of room clears, and staff do not realize the unintended negative consequences of their use.

The learning objectives for this module are to:

  • Define a classroom clear and its purpose

  • Outline the unintended consequences of classroom clearing

  • Identify proactive changes to adult practices and

  • Evaluate the benefits and drawbacks of its use

This course will take approximately 45 minutes to complete.
